The Neonatal Care Unit at the Victoria Jubilee Hospital (VJH) received two bassinets and two boxes of ventilator circuits donated by the Medz Foundation on Thursday, April 11, 2019 during the handing over ceremony at the hospital.
The Medz Foundation is a charitable organization founded by Dr. Mellesia Lee in August 2018 to help hospitals in need of equipment and supplies. The members of the foundation are comprised of fifth-year medical students at the University of the West Indies (UWI), Mona Campus. Last year, the foundation donated five wheelchairs to the Kingston Public Hospital. The money was raised from events held at the Senior Common Room at UWI.
Dr. Yanique Brown, Consultant Paediatrician in charge of the Neonatal Care Unit at the VJH said that the donations were very timely and the circuits will deliver oxygen to the patients. She also added that the VJH is truly grateful for this donation from the fifth-year medical students and that it will go a far way in not only improving health care delivery, but enhancing the comfort level for our patients.
