The South East Regional Health Authority (SERHA) has purchased a 230 Ton Chilled Water Air Conditioning Unit for the Main Operating Theatre Suite at the Kingston Public Hospital (KPH).
The Unit, which is expected to arrive in the island on or before September 30, 2016, was purchased at a cost of $25.8 Million through funding from the Ministry of Science Energy and Technology. It is expected to provide greater air circulation to the Main Operating Theatre Suite, which consists of four theatres and two recovery rooms. It will also reduce the risk of infection and down time significantly as well as delays for surgery.
Additionally, the new unit will also serve the Accident Emergency and Emergency X-ray Departments which are located in the same building. It will replace an existing unit that has become non-functional and has caused delays in the elective surgeries. The Region apologises for any inconvenience that may be caused as a result of the malfunctioning unit in the interim. Every effort will be made to install the new unit in a timely manner to ensure the continuity of surgical services at KPH.
